Prayer.
I Thessalonians 5:17 says, pray without ceasing, which means to be in a constant state of prayer.
It is maintaining a constant conscious awareness and reliance on God throughout your daily life, rather than literally praying 24/7. It implies keeping an ongoing conversation with God, being persistent in prayer and cultivating a habitual attitude of gratitude and spiritual receptivity.
In Luke 11:2-4, Jesus disciples asked him, teach us to pray of which Jesus gave them what is called the Lord’s Prayer.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done, as in heaven, so in earth.
3 Give us day by day our daily bread.
4 And forgive us our sins; for we also forgive every one that is indebted to us. And lead us not into temptation; but deliver us from evil.
In Matthew 6:9-13 Jesus said pray in this manner.
Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
1. Praise the Heavenly Father.
2. Thy will be done.
3. Ask to be fed.
4. Ask for forgiveness.
5. Ask for deliverance.
6. Praise again to the Heavenly Father.
Prayer is a dependence on God for everything you need. It is not a demand but rather continuously bringing our requests before God.
Prayer is a daily routine making it a regular part of life rather than just a Sunday activity.
It is a heart that is always ready to connect with God regardless of the situation.
Throughout the day, short silent prayers are responses to events or thoughts like seeing an ambulance or a fire truck go by and offering prayer for the victim. Or by engaging in a task and giving a quick prayer of God’s approval or help.
We should constantly be giving thanks to the Heavenly Father in every circumstance throughout the day, 1 Thessalonians 5:18, which is the very next verse after pray without ceasing says, in every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you.
Psalms 100 says in verse 2, Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing and in verse 4, enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name.
In the Bible, prayer is the direct relational communication between a person and God acting as a means to express adoration, confession, thanksgiving, and requests. It is an act of trust and dependence where believers align their wills with God's and experience His presence, often described as “pouring out the soul”.
We pray to know, understand and accept God’s will.
It is a personal relational dialogue with Gods rather than a formula.
Adoration (praising God), Confession (confessing sins), Thanksgiving (thanking God), and Supplication (asking for needs).
Prayers are offered to God the Father based on the merits of Jesus Christ.
It is asking God to do what He has promised, seeking His will rather than selfish desires.
Believing that God hears and answers, even if the answer is not what was expected.
Scripture encourages us to be humble when we pray that was modeled by Jesus himself. In the garden of Gethsemane Jesus prayed not to go to the cross but that “this cup pass from me. Then Jesus prayed, not my will Father but thy will be done.
